It seems that everyone has a web site now, from the 10 year old down the
street to the multi-billion dollar corporation. Most web sites are written
in HTML, a programming language developed specifically for the internet.
However, HTML is a static language, it needs other programs built into it
for any sort of dynamics. Image rollovers, dynamic content, e-mail lists
and other functionality make your web site interesting and engaging. So, what
does that have to do with you?
To make your web site an effective marketing tool it has to be a site that
people want to visit often. Special offers, news and events, images and
discussion boards are useful tools to bring back visitors again and again.
Your web site can have all of that, and more!
You have two choices
- Pay an internet developer by the hour to update
your content monthly, weekly, or even daily.
OR
- Create a database driven site - I use a program called ColdFusion -
that allows you to update your own content after the site is built. Both
options have costs at the beginning, but with the second choice you pay
once and you're done. (Until it's time for revisions that is, and I'll be
here for you when that time comes!)
First, take a look at the links to the left. You will find a user list,
news and images. These items are all created utilizing a database, which makes
their content changeable by you, the Administrator.
On the right you will see a list of Admins - areas where any administrator
can go to change content. Normally, Admins are protected by usernames and
passwords, however, I have opened up a group of admins for you to try out. Please
feel free to enter any test data that you wish, it will not affect the web site
and will give you a chance to see just a few of the possibilities
open to you.
Take a look around. At the top of the page are links to my web portfolio
and contact information. If you already have a web site that you would like
to keep, but make the content adminable by you, I can do that as well.
If you don't have a web site currently, I can take care of everything from
the design, layout and photography to the final web site.
